Examples of Community Events
  • Host a Cell Phone Drive:  Donations of both working and broken cell phones are accepted.  Working cell phones can be given to clients for emergency use. Non-working cell phones are sold to help provide funding for services.
  • Host a Food Drive:  Food donations support our shelter's commissary.  Currently, we can accept dry goods, canned food, box dinners and frozen meat.  Please see our list of needs.
  • Host a Themed Drive:  There are a number of items that our clients use on a daily basis such as diapers and new, unopened toiletries.  Themed drives (diaper drives, toiletry drives) help SafePlace keep these items in stock for all those who need them.
  • Birthday parties or other celebrations:  Ask people to bring a donation in addition to or instead of gifts.
  • Teachers - incorporate a fundraiser into lesson plans about community giving or family/dating violence around the holidays or any other time of year, or create a competition between classes to see who can raise the most money.
  • Community groups - collect donations during meetings and create a “thermometer” or chart to track the progress of the group’s donation goals.
  • Small businesses - hold an event where a portion (or all!) of the proceeds for a specified day are donated to SafePlace.

Defines the word "COMMUNITY" :D
The term community has two distinct meanings:
1) A group of interacting people, living in some proximity
(i.e., in space, time, or relationship). Community usually
refers to a social unit larger than a household that shares
common values and has social cohesion. The term can also refer to the national community or international
community
2) In biology, a community is a group of interacting livingorganisms sharing a populated environment. A community is a group or society, helping each other.
